Home Community Question & Answers Supplement Based Diets Is 5-HTP an appetite suppressant?

Answers
  • Yes. The theory behind some research is that it can function like an appetite suppressant. 5-HTP converts into seritonin and seritonin is a neurotransmitter (nervous system messenger) that has many effects on the body. One of these effects is appetite reduction.  That being said, 5-HTP is not proven for weight loss. Therefore, taking it won't necessarily lead to measurable fat reduction or help you lose weight, even if it does manage to help you feel less hungry.
