Home Community Question & Answers Prescription Diet Pills Is there a difference between Phentermine and Adipex other than the brand name?

  • Accepted Answer

Adipex (also called Adipex-P) is simply the brand name for the generic drug called phentermine, which is also known as phentermine hydrochloride.  The two pills are sold with identical formulas and give you the same results in terms of their appetite suppressant properties and their energy boost.  Adipex is the most popular brand of Phentermine in the United States.

That said, it's not the only brand name for the drug.  It is also sold under the names: Fastin, Ionamin, Zantryl, and others.  If you want the cheapest one, though, you should probably ask your doctor for just plain old generic phentermine.  Its effects are the same and its side effects are the same.

If you're looking for something nonprescription, try talking to your doctor about phentraminD.  It's virtually the same but less side effects.  That's what I did and I like it a lot more.

  • No there is not really a difference. Phentermine is simply generic Adipex. Both work the same.
