Default Don't base your decisions on pictures

If you want to take before and after pictures, take them rarely (no more than once a week but try to do it once per month) and only use them as a record to see your progress but don't make changes to your diet based on what your pictures show you. Weight loss is typically a slow and gradual process (the healthy kind anyway) so stick with what is healthy and good for you, don't try to lose weight faster because you don't like how you look in pictures.

Yeah. I don't think it's good to judge your weight loss based on your pictures. I have pictures where I look bigger when than previous ones and I know for a fact that I actually weighed less in the pictures where I look bigger. Cameras can really make you look odd because of shadows, light, what you're wearing etc.

I also think this is a bad idea. I would recommend taking pictures once every month or two and wearing the same clothes, hairstyle, etc. and take he picture in the same area at the same time of day with the same lighting for the best effect. That said, don't let your pictures dictate how you'll proceed with your weight loss goals. Most of us aren't very photogenic so it's easy to hate how we look in photos. Use the scale, a tape measure, how your clothes fit and how you feel to measure your weight loss progress.

I honestly think that you shouldn't take before and after pictures unless they will benefit you in some way (such as boost your motivation). If the pictures are doing more harm than good by causing you to view yourself negatively or make you obsessive or doubt your progress, it may be better to just put the camera down.

It's been my experience that weight loss before and after pictures are more trouble than they are worth. They only make me feel bad about myself so I've stopped taking them.

Oh, that's awful Beth :( I'm glad you don't take them anymore if they're upsetting to you. This was the way it was for my sister, too. It's important to do what you feel is best when it comes to these pictures. After all, if they are only proving to be a hindrance, they really aren't worth it.

I'm also someone who stopped taking before and after pictures. I don't believe in them and I also think that they cause more harm than good. I feel like they just make you and others want to body shame you.

It's good that you stopped taking them, too, Jan. They really should only be for positive purposes. If they make you feel bad about yourself or cause you or others to body shame you, then you really shouldn't take them.
