Exclamation Sitting is the new smoking

I know that lots of research is now saying that sitting is the new smoking when it comes to bad behaviors for health, but what I want to know is how much sitting is too much? How often should I be getting up and when I get up should I do more than just stretch and if so, how long should I stretch or do the other activity before I can sit back down again?

I think you should be getting up to stretch and move around at least every hour. If you can do this every 30 minutes even better.

Try to get up and move around every 30 minutes. If you have a job that requires you to sit all day, perform leg and arm stretches, take walks and be sure to engage in regular exercise out side of work.

Yes, essentially you just want to get up frequently and don't sit for longer than 30 minutes. I have an app on my phone that is schedule to go off every 30 minutes to remind me to get up, stretch my legs and walk around a bit. I recommend getting one of those because it can be hard to keep track of time when you're really in the groove of working or are caught up in a video game or are watching a show.

Oh that's great! I never thought about getting an app to remind me to get up and stretch my legs :) Thank you for letting me know about this, KellyKatt!
