hi jasmine
the reason that quitting smoking is so tough is two-fold. firstly, your body is addicted to nicotine. nicotine is the drug that is found in tobacco, which makes chemical changes in the brain. although nicotine does not cause the same changes in brain chemistry that heroin or cocaine does, nicotine is thought to be just as addictive.
secondly, in addition to a physical addiction to nicotine, most smokers also struggle with their emotional addiction to smoking when they wish to quit. this emotional addiction can be tied to many facets of their lives, particularly socializing and relaxing.
many habits become centered around smoking and even doing the simplest tasks, such as driving the car or going on a lunch break can trigger both an emotional and physical craving to smoke. despite these challenges, quitting smoking is probably the best thing you can do for your health. quitting smoking is very hard at the beginning, but once you have not smoked for a few weeks the cravings become much more manageable.
i quit smoking one and a half years ago, but even now i sometimes have the urge to smoke. i don't of course, but i think there will always be a little part of my brain that is addicted to smoking.
oh, and in my opinion there is nothing "cool" about smoking. when teens start rebelling many will try smoking, but this does not make them cool. what does make a person cool is if they treat their friends and family with love, respect, and kindness as best they can, and they don't abuse their body.
