I came across this new weight loss fad the other day called "ear stapling". It is said to be the newest rage in weight loss, and I was shocked to find just tonnes of acupuncture sites dedicated to this.

What is ear stapling? Basically, ear stapling is when a small staple is pierced into your earlobe, in the part of the lobe which represents the stomach, according to acupuncturists. The purpose is to help ease hunger pains, decrease appetite and assist in weight loss.

One website that promotes ear stapling states, "Getting Ear Staples has become a hugely popular method to assist those who are struggling to lose weight. For around $60 you can walk away with the ear staple - in hopes for a lighter and brighter future. Since dieting and exercise take time and discipline, many teens and adults are turning to Acupuncture Ear Staples weight loss program as an easier method of weight loss.

For those of us on the lifelong path to lose weight or maintain weight we know, that those last comments are only harmful when told to people who struggle with their weight. Ear staples or not, weight loss and weight management takes time, discipline, and dedication. An ear staple will not magically help you make healthier food choices, or get some exercise.

Now I don't know what other people think about this, but I'm pretty skeptical that this really works. How bout in the old punk days when people had 10 earings in each ear? Well, punks did seem pretty skinny, so maybe they were on to something .

It's funny how far people will go to lose weight.
I would classify ear stapling to the placebo effect if indeed it does work.
