Red face HELP!! I'm gaining instead of loosing

Hi every one,

I'm new to this site.

I am completely usless at diets so I have decided to take the exercise route. I have been exercising for 3 weeks 5 times a week doing an hour a day and getting very sweaty. I have toned my body to a point and feel like i'm getting thinner but I have gained nearly half a stone!!!!! I dont eat too many fatty foods but I have 5 kids to feed and look after so its hard to cook a low fat meal for me and a big meal for all the kids. What am I doing wrong??? My partner says that i need to give it more time, maybe hes right and i'm just being inpatient.

I just want to get to a point where I'm the right weight for my height (5ft2). I only needed to loose a stone and now its a stone and a half!!

Lol, oh dear...... I shall carry on for now, but its not good for my motivation.

Many thanks for reading Jane X

Thumbs up Exercise vs. Dieting

Hi and Welcome! It's always good to meet a new person here

I read your post and I immediately recalled a conversation I had with my mother-in-law last night. I was telling her how I was going to the gym five days a week and she replied, "Well, you must be able to eat anything you want if you're exercising like that". I was quick to correct her however. You see, even with all that exercise, if I don't also cut back on the calories I eat I will lose very little weight, if any at all .

I understand the dilemma you have about having to cook for your family. What I would recommend is to decrease the portion size of your meals if you actually can't change what you're eating. This would be the best place to start. If smaller portions leave you still feeling hungry then top off your meals with a big handful of salad with some fat-free dressing.

I think that following a vigorous exercise program like you are doing can definitely help you lose weight - just reduce your calorie intake. Try to avoid dieting pitfalls, such as drinking energy drinks and eating power bars before or after workouts that so many gym-goers do. Also, remember to incorporate both aerobic and anaerobic activities into your workouts and mix up the exercises.

I hope this has helped . Keep up the amazing effort!

I know what you mean, I am 5'4" and it just started to happen. One day your clothes fit, the next day they don't. Okay, what was I doing wrong. Not eating correctly. I found a program that has you eat every 3-4 hours, small meals or snacks. Guess what -- it's working for me. I also exercise, but I don't go to the gym everyday. I just walk. I'm even putting a smile on my face now and my clothes are starting to fit again.

Default After 5 weeks....

Yeahhhhhhh, 5 weeks of exercise and just watching what i'm eating and i have finally got back to the weight i was when i started. Lol at this rate only 3 more months till my target weight!! I'm just not eating between meals and remembering the portions of dinner should be the size of ur fist. I am trying eating apples if i get hungry between meals cause the skin acts as a hunger surpressant, but my goodness they r just so boring to eat one a day. There is no way I could ever eat a green only diet.

Good luck to all that are trying to loose it like me, be possitive and keep going!!

JJ72,

I have few questions to ask you that may help you.
Do you believe you can achieve your ideal body?
What will you do if you cannot lose weight and achieve your ideal body?
Do you enjoy what you are doing to get your ideal body?

These are the fundamental questions to your ideal body. When you are able to answer the questions with conviction, I am sure you can lose weight easily and achieve your ideal weight.

If you have any questions, you may PM me.

I eat the traditional way, the Suzy Fallon book, Nourishing Tradtions. I do not recommend it though if your not willing to spend time in the kitchen. You do lose the weight and feel amazing though.

Hi Skinny,

Its been 10 months now, i got to my ideal weight and body shape in August (in time for getting married). I have completely changed the way me and my family eats, its become addictive to be healthy but we all still have a bacon buttie on saturday lunch time and the odd large cookie as a treat. Every time my kids ask for a treat or dessert i make sure they have eaten thier veg or had fruit before hand. I can not have my evening meal now (the same as every one else but smaller portions than i used to eat) without green salad or a good size portion of veg. My body feels great and I think I'm the most healthy than i have ever been at the grand age of 37 and after having 3 kids (actually had 3 but look after 5).

I am still exercising 3 times a week to keep up with my fitness and to be honest even in the last 3 months my body shape is till slightly changing and my weight is more stable than its ever been. Being persistant is the key and being realistic with a good balance of the right food and exercise.

Take care every one XX
