There are a lot of different reasons why a person might have poor aerobic fitness. However, this does not mean that the problem should be completely ignored. The condition of your cardiovascular system, your musculoskeletal system, your digestive system, and pretty much every other vital system in your body depends heavily on your aerobic fitness level. Although the reasons behind poor aerobic fitness can vary from person to person, there are some pretty common causes that everyone should know about.

1. Sleep Apnea

Those folks who suffer from a type of sleep apnea may also notice that they have relatively poor aerobic fitness. This is mainly due to the fact the sleep apnea does a lot of damage to the heart and lungs over time, which can eventually translate into serious health problems. In fact, sleep apnea is directly linked to a person no longer having the ability to burn off fat and/or calories from simple aerobic exercise. After all, when your body works overtime even when it is sleeping, it is then rather hard to improve your fitness during your waking hours.

2. Improper Technique

A lot of times a person will have poor aerobic fitness because they simply do not know the proper workout techniques for certain exercises. Yes, just about anyone can hop onto an aerobic workout machine at the gym, but if that workout is done incorrectly, then there is really nothing to gain. And although you may break a sweat, you may or may not have done anything at all to improve your aerobic fitness. After a while this will really begin to show, and you will have an even harder time making physical amends.

3. Obesity

Those who are considered obese have a generally poor aerobic fitness level, almost as a rule. It is nearly impossible for an obese person to claim proper aerobic fitness, especially considering the damage that harboring excess fat can have on the heart, lungs, and other vital organs. Obese people need to work on their aerobic fitness in order to lose weight and improve their overall health.

4. General Lethargy

Some people seem to just get in their own way, perpetuating poor aerobic fitness because they are rather lazy, lethargic, or fatigued. Interestingly, poor aerobic fitness can cause all of those things. In other words, working out regularly can improve your energy and general fitness levels quite noticeably.
