Is Vaping Safer Than Smoking?

You may see a lot of people these days with an e-cigarette in their hand, but does that mean they are healthier than the folks holding a conventional smoke? While lots of negative attention has been rightfully placed on puffing on tobacco, there may not be enough information on vaping yet to determine its safety. A surprising number of smokers have successfully quit cigarettes by using some sort of vapor device, but have they just traded one bad habit for another?

What is Vaping?

Is vaping safer than smoking? Well, you have to know what it is first. Vaporized smoking is a revolutionary way to enjoy tobacco products. It allows the smoker to inhale nicotine-infused water vapor using a battery, a cell, and a compartment for a customizable flavored liquid substance. Without requiring direct combustion and preventing secondhand smoke from becoming an issue, e-cigarettes are popping up in public places all over the globe where conventional cigarettes are no longer permitted.

It Sounds Great. What Are the Cons?

Lots of speculation still surrounds the safety of vaping due to the use of the batteries contained within most electronic smoking devices. In fact, recent studies have shown that this “revolutionary” product still has some major glitches – namely in the amount of formaldehyde that is found within the vapor. Formaldehyde, of course, is the chemical used during the embalming process. In short, it is not something you want in your body.

What about All the Chemicals in Traditional Cigarettes?

Is vaping safer than smoking when conventional cigarettes are known to be more or less a chemical cocktail? That’s a good question, and the answer is yes and no. Many modern tobacco companies produce cigarettes with a buffet of toxins and poisons, making them just as bad if not worse than typical vapor smoking devices. There is an exception of every rule though. Hand-rolled, natural tobacco cigarettes are still the healthiest way to go if you must smoke any kind of nicotine-enriched product.

So is Vaping Safer than Smoking Cigarettes?

The final verdict: is vaping is safer than smoking cigarettes? Yes, but it is still hazardous to your health. While vaping can be seen as a viable alternative to smoking traditional tobacco products, it is still a good idea to quit smoking with less risky means. If vaping is enjoyable to you, try limiting yourself to doing it just a couple times a day. As always, speak to your doctor if you begin experiencing adverse reactions to cigarette smoke or vapor inhalation.
