Are prescription drugs only for obesity treatment? Can I take them even if I'm not obese. I mean, if I'm really overweight but I haven't hit the obese mark, would it still be possible for me to be prescribed this medication?

They are primarily used to treat obesity, people with a BMI of 30+. That said, even if you are in the overweight category like 27+ BMI you may still be prescribed these type of diet drugs for treatment at your doctor's discretion. That being said, usually if you are overweight and not obese and prescribed these pills it's typically because you are either at greater risk of or are currently struggling with other health conditions, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, etc.

Yup, you can still be prescribed it. It's not strictly for treating obesity. That said, that's something your doctor will decide. If a medical professional believes that the risks of taking this medication outweighs the potential benefits it offers you, then they aren't likely to prescribe it. Don't forget that taking these medications won't be easy on your system and you will still need to make a lot of changes. It's not simply a matter of popping a pill and watching the fat melt off.

Okay so it is possible. I still don't know if I'd be a candidate, but my family does have a history of high blood pressure and diabetes so I'm wondering if these genetic factors may make me a candidate, even if I don't currently have them. I just feel like I need something stronger than supplements.
