I think because it was increasing the risks of certain cancers...or something like that. Either way, it was something bad and the FDA needs to re-evaluate it. What freaks me out more is that they only found this out after they were using it to treat people. It just goes to show that they don't test stuff enough before releasing it to the public.

It's true. They don't test stuff as much as they should. Honestly, because of that, I'm a little worried about whatever COVID vaccine they may come out with. I mean, proper testing takes years. Goodness only knows if what they come up with will be safe, nevermind effective...Originally posted by tobetinytina View PostI think because it was increasing the risks of certain cancers...or something like that. I think it had to do with an increased risk of cancer, too. It wasn't so much that it was killing people, they took it off the market as a precaution.
Maggie, I agree about the COVID vaccine, but at the same time, I honestly don't think they have the luxury to take their time. Everything with COVID just seems to be a risk. However, with a weight loss drug...they really should take the necessary time to study that...

It was voluntarily withdrawn from the market by Belviq's seller while the research findings are investigated. To be honest, they don't know yet if Belviq does cause an increase in certain cancers or if it was just a coincidence. They're taking precautions and have made the drug unavailable and told people to stop taking it before it can be determined what the truth of the matter actually is.Originally posted by tobetinytina View PostI think because it was increasing the risks of certain cancers...or something like that. Thanks for saying all that. While I do think that the FDA approves things too quickly, especially for weight loss, at the same time, I think it's respectful to add that withdrawing it from the market is a precaution because they don't know if the drug is increasing the risk of cancer. All too often we're ready to cast blame when we don't actually know the key facts. I'm just glad that they informed the public. Personally, I hope it turns out that the drug isn't increasing cancer. For now, I'm glad that they've taken it off the market just in case.Originally posted by lia View Post

Glad to know this is what has happened. I mean, it's awful and I hope that they find out that it isn't causing an increased risk, but I'm glad they've taken it off the market anyway.Originally posted by lia View Post
