  • How to go to the coffee shop without being bombarted

People don't realize that these gourmet coffees in all the coffee shops they are ordering are stacked with calories. Here are some tips that I use to make sure I can still get my fix and that it tastes great but I avoid the major calorie hit:

Order fat-free or low-fat milk instead of whole milk.
    Order the smallest size available.
Skip the caramel or chocolate syrups they like to drizzle on top of everything.
NO WHIPPING CREAM. The whipped cream on top of coffee drinks adds lots of calories and fat.
Skip the fancy stuff and get back to basics.. Order a plain cup of coffee with fat-free milk and if you like it sweet, add splenda or just drink it black.

Great advice! I love coffee in every form. Hot, iced, black, or fancy. So when I decided to lose weight, this was one of the first things I investigated (I saw a piece on the news this summer about how many calories are in iced coffee, so that got me reading). I noticed that you recommended adding splenda, but I've been reading a lot about artificial sweeteners since I've been dieting and I discovered a lot of information that is saying that splenda and other products like it can actually make it harder for you to lose weight! I guess your taste buds are connected to your brain/digestive system, and when you taste something sweet, it gets your pancreas releasing insulin in preparation for the sugar/glucose. When you don't get any sugar, your brain actually makes you feel hungrier so that you'll consume the sugar your body is expecting. I don't know if that's absolutely true, but it's in a lot of studies and articles I've read (ex. Artificial Sweeteners May Hinder Diet, Weight Loss and Artificial sweeteners: Understanding these and other sugar substitutes - MayoClinic.com )

I would also add one think that you should take green tea for getting optimum result..

When I started my diet, I slowly decreased the “additives” to my coffee over time, so that I drink my coffee completely black with no sugar and no milk at all. I’ve found that I enjoy it a lot this way. It also makes it very easy to tell someone how you take your coffee, because I used to be rather fussy about how much milk and sugar I wanted. I don’t drink a lot of coffee anymore, and I’d cut it out of my diet altogether while I was pregnant, so I only started drinking it again in October, but it’s nice to have a cup every day and know that I’m not having a huge negative impact on my diet.

I know it's crazy to think that that little bit of cream and sugar can impact your day but it does really add up!
