I've heard that pshyllium husk acts like a laxative.Originally posted by Kyra View PostI think it's a gel-like fiber substance like glucomannan and is supposed to provide appetite suppression and help to block the amount of calories you digest. I also think there is no evidence to support these claims.

I has been used as a gentle laxative. I think it can also help to bulk up stools, it's sometimes recommended to some people with IBS. In regard to weight loss, it isn't likely better to work than glucomannan. Personally, I would avoid it as I would avoid glucomannan, because if you need to take something that makes you feel full but doesn't actually povide you with any nutrients, you're not really teaching yourself to follow a better diet...that and it's always freaks me out that you have to drink so much water with these types of substances because they expand, so you don't want them expanding in the wrong areas of your body.Originally posted by jan View Post

I don't think glucomannan or psyhlium husk are good for weight loss. Plus, once you stop taking them, wouldn't you just go back to eating as you did before? Also, I've heard that it's not so much the fiber that helps you to feel full before meals, its the crazy amount of water you have to drink with it (something like 500 ml) before meals that makes you feel full...

Really? So it's the water doing all the work? Wow, that's disappointing. I guess that makes sense though, I forgot about how much water it is recommended that you drink when taking these fibers.Originally posted by 1000kw View PostI don't think glucomannan or psyhlium husk are good for weight loss. Also, tara, I had no idea it was used as a laxative...
