This may be a stupid question but is lavender good for weight loss? One of my friends said that essential oils, in addition to being good for your health, are supposed to be good for losing weight. Is that just a myth or can I get more out of this pretty smelling plant than just aroma therapy?

Hmmm...I've never heard of lavender being good for weight loss. I know it's supposed to be calming so it can help to reduce anxiety. Maybe it can help you avoid eating bad foods or binge eating when you're feeling anxious?? I don't know. That's the best I could come up...in all honesty I don't see how it can be helpful to reduce body fat for someone who wants to trim down.

You've got it right bonniekins. If you've got high anxiety and your prone to eating when your anxious, lavender can help you by calming you, which can prevent you from binge eating due to anxiety. However, beyond that, I don't think it has any specific weight loss benefit. It's primary claim to fame (aside from smelling awesome) is to soothe and calm.Originally posted by bonniekins View PostHmmm...I've never heard of lavender being good for weight loss. I'm with Cjuo1992...eating lavender? Isn't that a flower?? That'd be like eating rose petals...bleh. I fail to see how something that smells pretty and calming can help you melt the fat away...Originally posted by CuJo1992 View PostIsn't lavender just a pretty smelling scent?? You don't actually eat it, do you? Does anybody else think the idea of eating lavender or any other flower for that matter strange?

You can actually eat lavender. It's used in beverages, such as teas. You can also eat other flowers including the flowers of chive plants. You can eat dandelions too. Some flowers are edible and have surprising tastes. In fact, I find a lot of the ones I've tried to be quite spicey haha. That said, I agree in that I don't think lavender really offers any real weight loss benefits.Originally posted by tara View PostI'm with Cjuo1992...eating lavender? Isn't that a flower??
