I've seen a lot of ads on tv for the lap band. Is it any safer/less hard on you than typical traditional gastric bypass surgery? They make it seem like a simple procedure when you compare it to the other one that I believe is quite dangerous if I'm not mistaken.

I've heard the same thing. I think I would have needed to try absolutely everything else before doing this. I wouldn't want to do permanent damage to myself just because I gave up too early.Originally posted by Lydiapurple View PostI would only do it as a last resort. I have heard stories about the band becoming faulty or just corroding and breaking.

I think it's a good idea to do a lot of research and put a lot of thought into either of those choices. Even a second opinion from another doctor might not hurt.Originally posted by tankini View PostGastric bypass is the riskier choice, but it is much more effective in losing the weight then getting the lap band.

What's the difference between the lap band and the gastric bypass? Is it pretty much the same thing accomplished in two different ways?Originally posted by tankini View PostGastric bypass is the riskier choice, but it is much more effective in losing the weight then getting the lap band.

It's a similar idea, but gastric bypass is a surgery that sews things up but the lap band is a device that is installed in your body.Originally posted by bigbobby View PostWhat's the difference between the lap band and the gastric bypass?
