I came across this weight loss supplement ingredient called octopamine and I read that it's in bitter orange. Isn't that herb where synephrine comes from, too? is octopamine another name for syneprhine and is it just as dangerous?

It's not synephrine, but it's another stimulant compound in bitter orange. It can also be dangerous and has been deemed an illegal substance by the world Anti-doping agency. It has also never been tested in humans. I would be very cautious about taking a supplement that contains it.

Oh my gosh! How many horrible things are in bitter orange? Why has this herb not been banned yet? I'm so tired of unregulated dangerous herbs!!Originally posted by Maggie View PostIt's not synephrine, but it's another stimulant compound in bitter orange. Seriously, why hasn't it been banned? Do a certain number of people have to get really sick or die before that happens? You know, it wouldn't even be so bad if the same herb (and the dangerous substances within it) all didn't have so many different freak'n names. How are you supposed to protect yourself when one herb has a huge number of names!!!Originally posted by char View Post

I agree with you freddyboy . I don't understand why this is still permitted in dietary supplements either. What does need to happen for it to be banned...
