    I know that there are different types of yoga. Are there different type of pilates, too? Like "hot pilates" lol?

    There are actually different types of Pilates, with the most common being: Mat Pilates, Classic Pilates, Contemporary Studio Pilates and Clinical Pilates. The type you may choose could depend on your level, what you want out of the exercise, where you're doing it and the reasons you're doing it.

      What's the difference between mat pilates and any of those others...don't you always need a mat for pilates??

        Well the major difference between classic pilates and contemporary pilates is the classic version is the one that is most true to the original exercise created by Joseph Pilate, so it follows the exercises in the order in which he performed them. Contemporary pilates is focused more on exercises in a "neutral pelvis" position, so the position in which your spine is in when you're standing upright in a health posture. So there are different ways to do this exercise and one may be better for you (or you might like one better) than another.

          Okay...but they all involve a mat and floor exercises, right?
