G. I. Diet

Developed by Dr. David Jenkins, a professor of nutrition at the University of Toronto, the G.I., or glycemic index, measures the speed at which your body breaks down food and converts it to glucose, which is used for energy or stored as fat. The G.I. or Glycemic Index is a measure of the speed at which the body breaks down carbohydrates and converts them to glucose and transferred to the blood. The higher the Glycemic Index value the faster carbohydrates are digested.

How The Glycemic Index Diet Works

Yellow light foods like cheese, eggs, corn and bananas have a medium G.I. and can be eaten occasionally. Red light foods should be avoided because they digest quickly. This causes the blood sugar levels to surge and crash. Stabilizing blood sugar levels can help to control hunger pains, your mood, even your ability to stay focused. This is a very effective tool for diabetics as it is for controlling cholesterol and high blood pressure.
