Healthy Halloween Treats Kids Still Love to Eat

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

One of the many reasons why kids love Halloween so much is because it gives them an excuse to eat a lot of candy and indulge in their favorite chocolates and sweets. But if you are worried about your kids eating candies that contain too much fat, too much sugar, and too many calories, there are healthier alternatives that they will still enjoy. Check out some of the healthy Halloween treats below and replace unhealthy options with these for a healthier Halloween.

Dark Chocolate Covered Apples
If your kids crave candy apples but you don’t like the idea of them eating all of that sugar, you can make a healthier alternative right at home. Dark chocolate covered apples are one of many healthy Halloween treats that are surprisingly easy to make, and the dark chocolate and fruit combine to provide a lot of antioxidants that will help protect your child’s health. Plus, this version is friendlier on the teeth than syrup-based candy apples. All you have to do is melt some dark chocolate and dip apples into the chocolate, covering them and then allowing them to cool.

Pumpkin Cupcakes
What kid doesn’t love cupcakes? With this healthy pumpkin cupcake recipe, you can ditch the unhealthy Halloween treats and give your kids something that will satisfy their sweet tooth without going overboard. Rather than using cake mix, use a pumpkin-oat muffin recipe for the cake, and then create a cream cheese frosting using 12 ounces of cream cheese, ½ cup of confectioners’ sugar, 2 tablespoons of low-fat yogurt, and ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract. These healthy Halloween treats have plenty of fiber, and they are also lower in sugar and calories when compared with Halloween cupcakes purchased at the bakery.

Healthier Store Bought Candy
In addition to making some Halloween treats at home, there are some candies and chocolates that are sold in stores and are not as high in calories, fat, and sugar as the rest of the options available. Read through labels to find the candies that your kids will love but that won’t cause them to consume too many calories.

Once you know a few healthy alternatives to the typical Halloween treats that aren’t good for your kids’ health, you can still allow them to indulge and enjoy the flavors of this fun holiday. And you, too, can also take advantage of these treats, knowing that they won’t lead you off your own fitness track.
