How to Determine your Frame Size

If you have always wondered what size frame you are, here is the method the insurance company used. This will be easier with the help of a friend.

  1. Extend your arm in front of your body bending your elbow at a ninety degree angle to your body. (your arm is parallel to your body).

  2. Keep your fingers straight and turn the inside of your wrist to your body.

  3. Place your thumb and index finger on the two prominent bones on either side of your elbow, measure the distance between the bones with a tape measure or calipers.

  4. Compare to the medium-framed chart below. Select your height based on what you are barefoot. If you are below the listed inches, your frame is small. If you are above, your frame is large

This is a very important tool. Remember that the way that you think you should look isn’t necessarily where you should be for your health. You may have a certain weight goal, but it’s always a good idea to look into where you should actually, ideally be. If you’re obese, you know that you need to lose weight, but there are a lot of people out there who think they’re fat when they’re borderline too thin! Get to know if that’s you before you make changes.

I don’t know that this is as accurate as it could be. There are a lot of factors that should be taken into account for this to be right. It does give a good ballpark idea, though.

is really great information. I like that it's all right here. I have been dieting a long time and this is just what my doctor has said, too.

There are two things that I want to say about this ideal body weight calculator feature on this website:

1- this is a really great tool. Especially because it helps dieters to get a bit of perspective so that they can aim for their healthiest body weight and not just the lowest one so they can look like a supermodel who hasn’t eaten more than a leaf of lettuce in a decade.

2 – this is really handy because it’s easier to diet effectively when you have a goal in mind. Just saying that you want to lose weight isn’t have as effective as saying that you want to lose fifteen pounds because that will bring you to 135 pounds (or whatever your ideal body weight may be).

i think i have some work to do

I also wonder, percentage wise, how many other people have some work to do. What's the percentage of overweight people in the country/world?

+1 # takes frame into considerationchristy 2011-12-30 04:55
What I really like about this is that it takes your frame into consideration.
I have a large frame (and no, I'm not just saying that to justify my weight). Even at my very slimmest, I'm still not a light person.
When I was in high school, I was very ill and was very underweight, and I still weighed 127 pounds (I'm 5'8"). So now that I'm trying to lose weight and find the ideal range of pounds, I'm glad to know that the frame size has been taken into consideration, since I'd need to be a virtual skeleton to weight the "small frame" range.

Thanks for this interesting tool. Actually, it matches up pretty good with what my doctor told me was about right for me, so I guess it's pretty accurate, too! I think the best way to start a healthy diet is to know what you ideal healthy body weight should be.
