Among the highly controversial weight loss products that are currently being sold in today’s diet marketplace is Phenterdrene P57.

To start, you should know that the official Phenterdrene P57 website does not contain very much information, so it is important to go elsewhere to find the necessary details to inform yourself about the supplement and its ingredients (such as this review) before actually beginning to use it. The manufacturer of Pheterdrene P57 is Pharma Resources. They imply on the website and label that Phenterdrene P57 is a prescription drug, though it is indeed an over-the-counter product.

In fact, even the packaging for this diet pill looks like it is in a traditional prescription bottle. With the manufacturer trying so hard to promote this OTC weight management aid as a prescription-grade product, it immediately calls into question the integrity of the manufacturer, the integrity and safety of the product’s formula and even the integrity of the online and local retailers who would consider selling it.

Pheterdrene P57 Ingredients

The official website, though very sparse in information, lists only some of the ingredients. As such, the ingredients list below was located on a third party site that used the product label as a source. According to the product label, the ingredients included:

  • Ephedra extract
  • Caffeine anhydrous
  • Acacia rigidula extract (phenylethylamine alkaloids, B-Phenylethylamin, N-Methyl-B-Phenylethylamin, R-Beta-Methyl-Phenylethylamine)
  • Phenylethylamine HCl
  • Theobromine
  • Synephrine HCl
  • Hoodia Gordonii extract
  • Caffeine anhydrous
  • Yohimbine HCl

Based on the ingredients listed in the formula, essentially, Pheterdrene P57 is just a very powerful stimulant. Among the stimulant ingredients are ephedra, caffeine, yohimbine, arcacia rigdula, and synephrine. It should be noted from the start that it is unknown if this OTC diet pill contains ephedrine, which is an illegal ingredient within the United States, Canada, and many other countries.

Supplements containing ephedrine alkaloids were banned outright by the FDA in 2004 and cannot legally be purchased, sold, or manufactured within the country. Even though the ban was challenged, it was ultimately upheld in 2006. The reason for the ban on ephedrine is its association with severe side effects that include high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack and death. That said, ephedra extracts that do not contain ephedrine have not been banned are still sold legally in the United States. Another ingredient that has received a lot of press over the last while is Hoodia Gordonii.

Though marketed as a miracle ingredient that can help people to easily shed extra weight through powerful appetite suppression, there has yet to be a single reputable study that has shown statistically significant results to provide that hoodia gordonii has any impact at all on losing weight. The Mayo Clinic has addressed this issue specifically saying that there has not yet been enough study to prove either the safety or the efficacy of this ingredient for weight loss.

No Real Benefit

The benefits of Phenterdrene P57 appear to be that it is less expensive than supplements that contain similar ingredients, with prices averaging $35 for 60 caplets. Another benefit is that it is apparently easy to swallow. However, on the flip side, as it has so many stimulants, this dietary supplement is likely to cause unwanted side effects like:

  • Jitters
  • Nervousness
  • Anxiety
  • Sleeplessness
  • Headaches
  • Nausea

Additionally, there are no money back guarantees for this product. That said, even if there was, it would still be in your best interest to avoid taking this weight management aid as it is unknown if it contains ephedrine. Moreover, even if it doesn’t, there are still far too many stimulants in it for its potential benefits to outweigh the risks for most people. It is clear to see where the controversy is rooted in the Phenterdrene P57 formula. Multiple stimulants, including ephedra, combined with shady marketing and product packaging make this anything but a viable weight loss product. Still, even if you feel that taking it is worth the risk, be smart and talk to your healthcare professional, first.

Update April 2020

Phenterdrene P57 has been discontinued. You can still find information and images on the web, but, thankfully, no one appears to sell it. Unfortunately, Phenterdrene P57 is not the only OTC diet pill that includes ephedra in its formula. There are still diet pills on the market today that contain this ingredient. While most do not contain ephedrine, these products should still be avoided as their formulas tend to be loaded with stimulants.
